Fractal 소개
Fractal is a Bitcoin-native scaling approach that recursively virtualizes Bitcoin Core into multiple layers, each isomorphic to the main chain and inheriting its security assumptions while trading faster and cheaper. It targets mainnet congestion and fee spikes during inscription and rune waves, and L2 designs that depend on bridges and external consensus.
The mechanism uses merge mining for Bitcoin hashpower, opcode extensions for richer assets and contracts, and a native token for fees and index-service staking. Public testing of a new index service began on May 14, 2026, with staking to participate in index mining. The recursive approach is clever, but application count and real usage remain limited.

Fractal Bitcoin is a Bitcoin scaling chain that keeps Bitcoin's core mechanisms and shares its security through merged mining. Driven by the UniSat team, it aims to give Ordinals, BRC-20 and native applications execution space within the Bitcoin system, with FB as the native token. Block rewards split 1:1:1 between merged mining, permissionless mining and index mining, and the codebase has been rebased from Bitcoin Core v24 to v29.
The 2026 story is two proposals and one halving. FIP-101 introduced a standardised data indexing service folded into the block reward system; it entered public testing on 14 May and activated in August, with index mining paying 25 FB per block and users able to stake FB through Taproot-based non-custodial scripts, with more than 1.5 million FB staked during testing. On 8 September the network completed its first halving at block height 2,100,000 while FIP-102 activated, expanding FB distribution from the Fractal network to the Bitcoin mainnet: the Fractal-side block reward fell to 6.25 FB while a further 6.25 FB issuance budget was redirected to Bitcoin mainnet, leaving total supply unchanged. The halving also permanently burned 4,101,541 FB. UniSat said it would buy $200,000 of FB from the open market each month for five months after the halving, $1 million in total, as a long-term strategic reserve locked on chain for at least five years.
Future strategy and roadmap: FIP-103 will define the concrete distribution mechanism for FB on Bitcoin mainnet, targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027. That decides whether FB becomes a Bitcoin-native asset rather than the token of one scaling chain. The risk is that narrative and demand diverge: index mining and staking give a reason to hold, but ecosystem usage still leans heavily on Ordinals, BRC-20 and meme activity. With half the issuance budget moved to mainnet, actual returns depend on whether FIP-103's design brings genuinely new holders rather than diluting existing ones.
