Meridian 소개

Meridian is an x402 payments middleware layer on Base that launched alongside its MRDN token on 29 October 2025, founded by Benedict Brady with Aren Rendell, Evan Kim and Kishan Patel, on a one-billion token supply. It matches AI agents and merchants for pay-per-call on-chain settlement: the agent issues a request, the merchant returns a 402 quote, and Meridian's facilitator contract verifies the signature and settles.
Technically it addressed cross-chain and multi-asset settlement first: from November 2025 it used Across as the settlement route, avoiding the up-to-seven-day challenge period for returning to Ethereum from a layer two, and allowed payment in tokens beyond USDC. When Circle released its Agent Stack and sub-cent Nanopayments down to USD 0.000001 on 11 May 2026, Meridian was an early integrator, and the Circle CCTP route is marked complete on its roadmap. Real usage is small: third-party on-chain counts for July 2026 put cumulative settlement at about USD 1.24 million across 57,941 payments, with USD 187,000 and 8,315 payments over thirty days, run by a single settler, against Coinbase's official facilitator at USD 1.57 million and 16.98 million payments.
Strategy and roadmap: Meridian is trying to occupy the neutral settlement layer in the new x402 standard, charging a 1% protocol fee into the treasury on Base transactions while subsidising users with 2% MRDN cashback capped at USD 5 per payment; next it plans UMA optimistic-oracle dispute arbitration and an mrUSD stablecoin issued through M0. The first risk is token structure: only 2.7% of supply circulates, leaving valuation more than thirty times the float. The second is competitive standing, since x402 settlement is currently led by Coinbase, Meridian's share is minimal and concentrated in one settler, and the path dependency is pronounced.
