Stacks 소개
Stacks is a smart-contract layer (Layer 2) anchored to Bitcoin settlement, serving developers and users who want DeFi and BTCFi on Bitcoin. It addresses Bitcoin's weak programmability by using Proof of Transfer (PoX) consensus to anchor finality to Bitcoin and sBTC to bring 1:1 Bitcoin-backed assets on-chain. Its Nakamoto upgrade sharply cut block times, while the Clarity language delivers predictable contract execution under Bitcoin's security model and Bitcoin staking lets holders earn BTC rewards.
As a Bitcoin layer, Stacks's value capture relies on BTC rewards distributed via PoX rather than a burn mechanism, and network fees are not burned with no buyback, fitting BTCFi staking, lending and Bitcoin-settled DeFi.

On July 30, 2026 the PoX-5 hard fork activated at Bitcoin block 960,230, introducing protocol bonds that pair BTC time-locked on Bitcoin with STX locked on Stacks as staking capacity and removing the cooldown between staking periods. The Genesis Bond's 230 BTC capacity sold out on September 10, with 21Shares, HashKey Cloud, UTXO Management and Sypher Capital among the first institutions.
Bonding Period 2 brought in 505 BTC, 483 of it through Stacking DAO's liquid staking, for roughly 735 BTC across both periods; stBTC launched on September 3 and its first 150 BTC of capacity filled within 24 hours. Staked STX recovered from 392 million after the fork to 448 million at quarter end and 493 million after the second period. Zest holds $122 million of deposits and 800 BTC of collateral, weekly DEX volume hit a 12-month high of $16.7 million in the week of September 28, and sBTC supply reached 2,487 BTC.
Stacks treats Bitcoin staking as the ecosystem's top-of-funnel product rather than a standalone yield line: PoX-5 pairs institutional BTC with STX in bond tranches, the Genesis Bond validates the design at 250 BTC with a 3% BTC-denominated rate, PoX-6 hands pricing to a blind auction, and the resulting lock-up demand feeds lending, sBTC and AI-agent settlement. Institutional distribution is already in place: Fireblocks and Fordefi provide access, BitGo, Copper and Hex Trust custody sBTC, and Grayscale's STX trust and 21Shares' staking ETP offer compliant exposure. Rootstock and Merlin compete for the same Bitcoin L2 thesis; Stacks differentiates on 100% Bitcoin hashpower security, at the cost of a still-small ecosystem. Institutional capital therefore enters through bond tranches first and waits for the auction to take over pricing.
