Walrus 소개

Products and partnerships: In May it launched the AI-agent memory SDK MemWal, in June the portable memory layer Walrus Memory, in September Blockticity brought $7.7 billion in authenticated trade records onchain, and on October 7 it released the developer platform Walrus Console; on October 12 the Sui Foundation invested $30 million in DATA Network, with Walrus named its default storage layer (Trace has registered over 250 million data contributions and processes more than 3 million receipts daily).
Price and supply: WAL hit an all-time low of $0.0205 on August 17, then rebounded about 50% in a week in mid-October on the AI data narrative; roughly 38.33 million tokens unlock around the 27th of each month (value falling from ~$2.76M in April to ~$1.11M in July); Binance delisted the WAL/FDUSD spot pair on August 14.
On October 12, 2026 the Sui Foundation invested $30 million in DATA Network, an AI training data protocol, becoming one of its largest institutional holders. DATA will be upgraded to a native Sui protocol and its standalone chain retired, with DATA tokens migrating one-to-one, and Walrus becomes the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications. The Trace registry has logged more than 250 million data contributions since launching in June and processes over 3 million attestations a day.
Technically, Walrus splits files into 1,000 shards with the two-dimensional RedStuff erasure code; in the epoch that began in early October, 94 of 137 registered nodes made the committee, with the two largest holding 26 shards each. Storage is priced in epochs of two weeks with up to 53 epochs prepaid, quoted in dollars and paid in WAL, whose supply is fixed at 5 billion with no mint path; the token traded near $0.0384 in mid-October. Another 2026 deployment saw Team Liquid migrate its multi-year esports archive onto the network.
Future strategy and roadmap: Walrus needs two kinds of expansion to spread its storage costs: bundling identity, compute and storage across the Sui stack for long-lived data such as AI training sets and esports archives, and extending the same verifiable storage to chains such as Ethereum and Solana so it is not tied to one ecosystem. Once DATA migrates one-to-one and its standalone chain is retired, Walrus also takes over default storage and the Trace registry, turning data-contribution credentials into a tradable data market. Against Filecoin's incentivized storage and Arweave's one-off permanent fee, its difference is programmable permissions and verified reads, paid for with two-week pricing and prepaid epochs that push cost certainty onto enterprise buyers.
