Ethereum Classic 소개
Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum chain that kept proof-of-work and immutability, running EVM-compatible contracts with ETChash to resist ASICs and keep GPU miners involved. Its monetary policy pairs a hard cap with height-based reductions, cutting block rewards by 20% every 5,000,000 blocks to produce a predictable declining curve. Miners, node operators and several client teams maintain the network, with Core-Geth and Besu underpinning execution and applications skewed toward those that prefer PoW settlement.
Its position is a low-fee, stable EVM environment for miners and PoW-leaning applications, well behind Ethereum mainnet in security budget and developer activity. On 22 July 2026, at block 25,000,001, the fifth reduction cut the block reward to 1.6384 ETC. In September a Core-Geth build posing as a security update appeared, with some pools briefly migrating before rolling back, while the Olympia upgrade, which would add fee burning and an onchain treasury, continues on testnet.

Supply cut: Block 25,000,001 on July 22 executed the fifth reduction, cutting the block reward from 2.048 to 1.6384 ETC and removing roughly 2,635 coins of daily new supply, leaving 24.6% of the 210.7 million cap still to be mined.
Progress and setback: The Olympia upgrade is being tested on Mordor, adding EIP-1559-style fee burning and an on-chain DAO treasury, targeted for late 2026. In September a Core-Geth client release falsely presented as a security update triggered a brief miner migration before being rolled back.
On 15 January 2026 Ethereum Classic published the Olympia upgrade, aligning the EVM with Fusaka, adding an EIP-1559 style fee market and routing base fee revenue to a protocol treasury without touching miner rewards. From 15 February multiple clients began the Gorgoroth trials on the Mordor testnet, and the mainnet activation block awaits a core developer call, with the site counting down to 1 January 2027.
Two other events shaped the year. In August the fifth block reward reduction cut issuance from 2.048 to 1.6384 ETC per block, and in September a lookalike Core Geth client release triggered a brief miner migration before nodes reverted to Argos v1.12.23 with no loss of funds. If the four Olympia ECIPs land, ETC gains its first treasury funded by protocol revenue. Even so, ETC's DeFi footprint and developer activity remain far below Ethereum mainnet, with onchain demand coming mostly from transfers and existing applications. Olympia routes base fees to the treasury while leaving miner rewards untouched, a direct answer to the funding exhaustion that has dogged development.
Ethereum Classic's Future strategy and roadmap: hand development funding to onchain governance once Olympia activates, keep tracking Ethereum's EVM versions, and use proof-of-work censorship resistance to win back miners and institutional users.
