IOST 소개
IOST is a public chain proposed in 2017 whose mainnet runs a two-tier structure of a Beacon chain plus shard chains. Consensus is POB, Proof of Believability, where token stake and a reputation score jointly select block producers; shards process transactions in parallel and cross-shard calls commit atomically through the Atomix protocol, aimed at high-frequency, small-value workloads. It serves applications that need low fees and predictable confirmation, such as content, gaming and payment DApps, with developers onboarding through the official SDK and explorer. On 19 October 2026 the v4.0.0 mainnet upgrade completed, with all consensus nodes switched over and the block and reward calculation reworked.
In the ecosystem IOST belongs to the early Asian public-chain cohort whose technical label is sharding; node election and staking form the governance axis, while the foundation steers upgrades and ecosystem funding. Compared with general-purpose EVM chains its virtual machine and account model are distinct, applications cluster in gaming and social, and cross-chain assets mostly arrive through third-party bridges.

On 19 October 2026 IOST said every mainnet consensus node had completed the mandatory v4.0.0 upgrade, a backward-incompatible hard fork that improved transaction processing consistency, contract execution stability and node reliability; Upbit then suspended IOST deposits and withdrawals on 21 October. Spot prices ran from $0.000745 to $0.001908 on 20 and 21 October before dropping 29% within an hour. On 21 October Binance's IOST perpetual turned over $1.118 billion in a day, about 21 times spot volume, showing derivatives drove the move.
The rest of the year centred on supply and tooling. On 8 September the foundation permanently burned 70 million IOST from its legacy ERC-20 issuance, and its 8 July half-year review reported upgrades to iWallet Pro, the Ivem SDK and IOSTSCAN, one-click account creation and the launch of the World Cup prediction site betoniost. The explorer showed more than 1.03 billion cumulative transactions and over 1.23 million mainnet accounts. The IOST 3.0 Layer 2 on BNB Chain and its RWA liquidity engine remain the main narrative, with DigiFT, Aspecta and Paimon as early partners.
Future strategy and roadmap: the team will push real-world asset tokenisation and PayFi through the IOST 3.0 Layer 2 on BNB Chain, and will restore a regular release cadence for node software after a gap of nearly two years without a version update.
